You are bound to find what you need in our wide-ranging collection of literature on women and music, and in the FrauenMusikForum’s scores of music by women composers. The collection is publicly accessible in the Music Library of the Bern University of the Arts (BUA), and is integrated into the IDS Basel Bern catalogue.

To illustrate our unique collection of scores, we have launched an equally unique project. Examples of scores by selected composers, supplemented by audio extracts, a biography, a picture, and links to further information where applicable, are being placed online. This practical project will give musicians access to hitherto little-known works and thus increase the number of performances. The first portrait, which came online recently, is devoted to the Genevoise composer Caroline Boissier-Butini (1786-1836).Virtual composers gallery
The reference library contains scores by composers from Hildegard von Bingen up to contemporary works, for all possible scorings. The music collection comprises about 5000 scores (printed editions and manuscripts, autograph scores, photographed and hand copies of first editions and manuscripts), about 800 books on women conductors, musicians, and composers from nine centuries, other literature, and more than 300 CDs.
The FMD office is happy to answer questions or give advice about the collection.
